How Femnee creates and reviews its health information
Clear, practical information to help women understand their health and make informed decisions about when to seek further advice.
How our information is produced
Our health information is written and edited for a general audience. We aim to explain medical subjects in straightforward language without oversimplifying important issues.
Where appropriate, our information is based on established UK guidance and trusted professional sources, including the NHS, NICE and relevant Royal Colleges and specialist professional bodies.
Medical review
Medical articles are reviewed by an appropriately qualified doctor before they are approved for publication. The name and qualifications of the medical reviewer and the date of the most recent review are shown on the article.
Keeping information up to date
Health information is reviewed periodically and may also be updated earlier when important new guidance or evidence becomes available.
Sources
Important sources and further reading are shown at the end of relevant articles. We do not aim to reproduce medical guidelines; our purpose is to make reliable health information easier to understand and use.
Education, not individual medical advice
Femnee's online information is educational and cannot diagnose a medical condition or replace advice based on an individual's medical history and circumstances.
If something you read raises a question about your own health, you can discuss it with your GP or another healthcare professional. You can also Ask Femnee.
Independence
Femnee is operated by Health and Education Centre, a women's-health education charity. Acorn Fertility supports the programme by making clinical facilities, equipment and staff resources available.
Our educational content is not written to promote a particular test or treatment. Asking Femnee a question does not commit you to having investigations or treatment with us.
Where appropriate, women can take reports or investigation results to their GP and continue their care through the NHS.
